Mac Os - Scan with 4D

Hi,

Is there any free plugin (Like Win32API in windows) or way with Launch external process , … for scanning an image in Mac Os ?

T.I.A.

just experimental:

https://github.com/miyako/4d-plugin-twain

most scanners have a send-to-folder (with optional convert-to-pdf) feature and driver.

it might make more sense to monitor changes to that folder:

Hi Miyako,

Thanks a lot. It works.

BTW, In windows I can open a new 4D (64 bit) just holding the shift key . Is this option in Mac Os ?

Hi Alfonso,
i’ve done a similar job recently with a friend, we did not need plugin.
Schematically:

  • 4d opens a dialog “waiting for scan”
  • the “on load” of that dialog removes all files in a given folder “scan result”
  • still in the “on load”, 4D launches the scanner application (that becomes frontmost) and starts waiting for something in the above folder (on timer)
I can’t remember after, if it’s triggered when 4D comes back frontmost or when the folder contains a document… anyway, if there is a pdf document in the folder, it’s displayed in a webarea.

As far as I know, on mac you have to duplicate an app to open in twice.

Hi Arnaud,

Thank you for the tip, but this is for a vertical application.
So, it must be transparent for the user.

In windows it’s great that you can open many times 4D without duplicating 4D

Yes, still the user needs to press the scan button within the scanner application and go back to 4D. By chance the friend I worked with is the boss and the boss said it’s good enough for the user
Anyway I think I’ll give a try with that plugin, good enough does not exclude better.

I am curious how it works as 4D save users in the structure database, for example ?
What’s happen if you modify one user on the fly in the other 4D ?

Alfonso is speaking of 4D.exe duplicate, not myDB.4db, I think.

Ok, and what happen with our own 4D fusionned application on PC…

It seems you can using terminal:

with some restrictions to read carefully.
Just curious, what seems so great to you, instead of duplicating? Disk full?

A ce que je comprend, tu commences par prier et ensuite tu te frappes la tête en disant bon sans mais bien sûr ça peut pas fonctionner…

I love this part : "you may run into problems"

BTW: Why can’t we edit this forum ? :-?

I can run it the times I need, wihtout duplicating.
This is not useful at any time, but sometimes it is good for example for comparing or searching code in others databases, … .
I can have open all the databases I need, at the same time.

This works fine with 4D but not with 4D fusionned Apps…

Of course. I’m talking about the 4D in windows, not fusionned.
But as I was asking if it’s possible on Mac Os.
Its seems not.

It’s just to mention that this option is not always working even in windows too.
Did you try the Arnaud link for testing in macOS ?

Not necessary. I was asking just for knowing if it was a shortcut easy to do as in windows.
Thanks everyone.
